Traffic free in rugheim and romershofen – district administrator schneider announces latest rehabilitation measures

Not only district administrator wilhelm schneider, who on working days drives from his home town of allertshausen through rugheim and romershofen to his workplace in habfurt, had reason to rejoice on friday. Because after two weeks of full closure, the local thoroughfares through both villages are again freely passable.

Residents of the staatsstrabe will also be pleased that the construction work in front of their houses has been completed. There is one more piece of good news for you, because according to the state construction office in schweinfurt, an armor-reducing surface course was installed during the rehabilitation of the road surfaces. This so-called, as "dark layer heib" shortened DSH pavement reduces tire rolling noise by more than 50 percent, cutting traffic noise in half.

For more than ten years now, the state construction office has been using such asphalt pavements, which were originally intended as an additional surface layer for the rehabilitation of the road surface, also for noise reduction in local thoroughfares.

In rugheim and romershofen, the existing surface course was first rubbed down and damaged areas repaired. The existing drainage channel was rehabilitated and grouted, and then a so-called asphalt binder course was laid, on top of which the new dark-layer pavement was applied. In the coming week, minor improvements, such as road marking, will take place with traffic flowing.

Darker roads in bavaria

Manfred rott from the building authority explained that the road is so dark because raw materials from the region were used in bavaria for the construction of the road. The dark basalt for the strabe comes from maroldsweisach. In upper bavaria, for example, the trenches are lighter in color because morainic gravel is used there for trench construction.

The length of the romershofen and rugheim thoroughfares is 460 and 760 meters respectively. According to the construction office, the two roads are used by an average of 4195 vehicles per day, 217 of which are trucks. At peak times, up to 6,000 vehicles pass through the two locations.

The total cost of the two crossings is approximately 400,000 euros. In addition, there are the costs for the alignment of slides and shafts in the amount of about 50,000 euros, which the city of hofheim has to bear for rugheim and the city of konigsberg for romershofen. The cost of the state road is borne by the state of bavaria. The project was handled by the schweinfurt state construction office. The company stolz from hammelburg carried out the construction work.

District administrator schneider described the state road 2275 from hofheim to habfurt as an important connection road within the district and announced that the road from konigsberg to oberhohenried as one of the worst roads in the district will be rehabilitated as soon as possible. Claus bittenbrunn, mayor of konigsberg, was relieved about the reopening of the project. "It was a madness what rolled through konigsberg in the last two weeks", he said.

State parliament member steffen vogel described the project as a "model example of successful cooperation" between the authorities and wished for more money for road construction. "State roads are lifelines for people who want to stay in the countryside", said vogel. Siegfried burger, chairman of the rugheim village community, expressed his thanks for the successful work. "Rugheim is enthusiastic", he said.
